This year, we’ve seen unprecedented engagement from the Biden administration, affording AFSA a significant seat at the policymaking table and the opportunity for regular input.
“We are at a technological crossroads with the rights and economic security of workers at risk."

The American Federation of School Administrators (AFSA) today endorsed Joe Biden and Kamala Harris for president and vice president of the United States.

In a letter to the members, AFSA President Ernest Logan wrote, "Vice President Biden and Sen. Harris are the best advocates for public schools. They believe strongly that a well-funded public education system is vital to our nation."

As we close in on Election Day, we ask you to look at the candidates’ records, and you will clearly see the difference on the support they will provide public education.

Back in May, former Vice President Joe Biden won the AFL-CIO endorsement for president; it was announced in a 10-minute speech by federation President Richard Trumka.

Dear AFSA Family,

Happy Labor Day.

This holiday is usually a time when public school educators celebrate the advances we have made for our profession and the start of a new school year. But this year is like no other. Today, it is hard to be excited and happy with the uncertainty brought on by COVID-19 and the crazy politics bombarding us every day.

After the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, those looking to kill public education in New Orleans took the opportunity and ran with it. Now, with schools closed across the United States because of the coronavirus crisis, will those preaching privatization make another big push?

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos has made no secret about it, she is using the coronavirus crisis to move forward on her longstanding objective of using public dollars to support access to private schools.

School leaders have to be cognizant of the severe emotional toll this pandemic has taken on students, staff and ourselves. Our communities are facing pains that aren’t always physical, and we need the tools to help them.

AFSA concluded its “Summer of Learning” series with a session on providing mental health resources in the time of COVID, led by Dr. David Schonfeld, director of the National Center for School Crisis and Bereavement. Schonfeld offered a wide range of methods to help students and adults cope with extreme circumstances.
